Theone Kirby

Theone Fern Kirby, 88, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Union Park Health Services. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, 511 Des Moines St. with burial at Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Theone was born August 11, 1919. She cashiered at a grocery store in Sioux City, Iowa prior to her father’s death. After her father died, she moved to Fredericksburg, Iowa to take care of her mother where she had a hair salon. She then moved to Des Moines with her mother to work at Wolf’s Dept. Store as an electrologist. Throughout her time in Des Moines she was very active in her church sewing quilts, making baptismal cloths and a variety of other useful things for the missions. She also volunteered at Lutheran Hospital and Luther Park. Theone loved to socialize with everyone she met.
Theone is survived by her brothers, Alve and Robert Kirby; four nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dona M. Whiteside.
