Dorothy Boyd
March 05, 2018
Dorothy Boyd has passed away at the age of 90. Her birthday was October 27, 1927. She breathed her last on March 5, 2018, but she lives among us forever. Dorothy, “The Pillar” as she was lovingly referred to by her children and grandchildren, was indeed the heart and soul of her family and we already miss her constant presence in our lives. She was a feisty daughter and sister, strong and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She taught us all that if you don’t lie, don’t cheat, and don’t steal, you will always sleep well! Dorothy always slept well!! Thanks to her, our lives have been filled with love and laughter.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband, Roy (they celebrated their 71st anniversary this past January); brother, Bert Ranes of Centerville, IA; sons, Dennis (Cindy) of St. Charles, IA and Jim (Teresa) of Des Moines; grandsons, Mike (Heidi), Matt and Tony; and granddaughter, Kelly (Patrick) Schutte; great-grandchildren, Mack, Ross, Maisie, Molly and Jayson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and an infant son, Mark.
May you rest in peace Mama, you will live in us and we thank you.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation on Sunday, March 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. and the funeral service on Monday, March 12 at 10:00 a.m. Family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

She was a wonderful aunt and role model to us all. I will always remember her generosity and the great breakfast she would prepare each time we visited.
