March 04, 2018
Donald Julian Krois, age 81, passed away March 4, 2018 at Calvin Community in Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8th from 9 to 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1627 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. also at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow at McClarens Resthaven Cemetery.
Don was born January 4, 1937 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Cretin High School in St. Paul in 1954. At the age of 18, Don began his employment with 3M Corporation in Maplewood, Minnesota. He then relocated, as a sales representative to West Des Moines, Iowa in 1971. Don remained with 3M his entire working career, retiring after 42 years of service, at the age of 60.
Don married his childhood sweetheart, Rita (Collins), on September 14, 1957 and they reached the amazing milestone of 60 years together in 2017. Don was a family-oriented man. He enjoyed family fishing vacations in Minnesota with Rita, his five boys, and their families. Don was a strong supporter of family events, and attended the many activities of his kids, and grandkids every chance he could. Family was everything to him.
Don was a real sports fan. He was a true Iowa Hawkeye. Don also loved his native state professional sports teams. Something that he passed on to his boys. Don and Rita also enjoyed the occasional trip to Las Vegas, or some of the local casinos.
Don is survived by his wife, Rita; sons, Don (Lisa), Dave (Marcia), Rick (Carol), John (Joni) and Rod (Kelly) Krois; grandchildren Phillip, Allison (Jay Koontz), Stephanie, Nicole, Ann, Nathan, Kelsey, Madison, Adam, Ryan, and Claire Krois, great-grandson, Leo Koontz; and sister, Joan McGrath. Don was preceded in death by his parents Julian Michael and Frances (Gangl) Krois.

Rita, Don, Dave, Rick, John & Rod - So very sorry to hear of Don's passing, my heartfelt condolences. I'll always remember him in the stands for baseball or on the sidelines watching us play football in the street. When we lost a bad game one of my favorite quotes from Don was, "At least nobody got hurt." He was a good man, God Bless Don and the Krois family.

Dear Rita, Don, Dave and Rick,
I know we haven't been in contact for many years, but I saw the obituary for Mr. Krois in the Register and wanted you to know I am sorry for your loss. An old African folktale tells us that a person really never dies as long as we remember them. May your husband and father forever be alive in your hearts and minds.
Blessings,
Ron Reighard (school bus driver and teacher WDMCS)
