Ivars Zagers

Ivars Zagers, 77, died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Ivars was born July 8, 1940 in Riga, Latvia to Raimonds and Hilda Zagers. The family immigrated to the United States in 1950 and settled in Des Moines, Iowa. Ivars graduated from East High School and attended Iowa State University before serving in the United States Army, stationed in South Korea. Ivars worked in banking and insurance as a computer operator for many years. Ivars enjoyed living the past several years at 3801 Grand, and we would like to thank the staff for their kind and dedicated care. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs, White Sox and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed attending Iowa Cubs games as often as possible. He especially liked going to East High football games and eating at La Pizza House after the game.

He is survived by his daughter, Marie Koenigsfeld (Justin) of West Des Moines, son, Christopher Zagers of Lenox, Iowa, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raymond.

A celebration of Ivars’ life will be held at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, 511 Des Moines Street, Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.
