Laura S. Kayser
February 24, 2018
Laura S. Kayser passed away February 24, 2018, at Taylor House Hospice surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was born July 26, 1973, in Fremont, Nebraska, to Judson and Sharon (Runyan) Anton.
Laura graduated from Jesup High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1995 and later received her Master’s degree in Business Leadership from William Penn University in 2015. Laura worked for Tone’s Spices prior to providing in-home childcare while raising her own children. She then taught preschool at Ankeny First United Methodist Church before working as the Kitchen Manager for Stilwell Junior High School in West Des Moines.
Laura was a member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church. From being the secretary of the Saydel Music Boosters, to being a seamstress and healthy snack provider for the Marching Eagles, to spending hours on the road providing Gatorade to parched drum corps friends all over the Midwest, she was an overall “Band Mom.” Laura raised many litters of kittens for Safe Home Rescue. Above all else, she treasured her family, especially her children, and their time spent together.
Laura is survived by her husband of 23 years, Doug; children, Max, Claire, and Ben; parents, Jud and Sharon Anton; maternal grandmother, Mariellyn Runyan; paternal grandmother, Charlotte Anton; her sisters, Mary (Tom) Kiefer, Amber (Dustin) Matthiesen, and Julie (Matt) Cook; as well as many other loving family members and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Donald Runyan, and paternal grandfather, Beryl Anton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut Street in Ankeny, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family or Saydel Music Boosters in loving memory of Laura.

Doug, Words fail me. I cannot express how heart broken I am for you and your family. Laura was taken all to soon. I only had the privilege of meeting her a few times. Doug, Max, Claire & Ben
We are so sorry for your loss. Words cant begin to express how we feel. We want you to know that being there with you this past week has shown us what great individuals you are. Doug you and Laura raised some amazing kids. They are strong, resilient, kind, loving, smart, and talented. Max you stepped up and helped your siblings with their pain and grief while you were also suffering. It helped them a lot to transition through everything that was going on and for you to be there for them when your Dad was occupied. You took on a role beyond your years which shows a lot of maturity. Your skill in composing the music for your Mom was truly outstanding. Claire you show grace under fire being able to drive your mom to the hospital. You gave her a gift by being with her during that time. You also think of others because you were feeding all of us during this difficult time. That is something your Mom would do. Your flute music was beautiful also. Ben you remind me so much of Doug at this age since he went through something very similar when he was a kid. You light up when you talk about your robotic competition and very proud to show off what it can do. You like to spend time with your animals and you were able to play the music for your Mom at a time that was truly difficult. I see so much of her in all of you kids. Doug you and Laura can be very proud of your kids. You both have done an outstanding job in raising such wonderful human beings. Doug we love you more than we can express. You quietly put everyone elses needs ahead of your own. You made sure that your kids were looked after and cared for when you werent in the room with them and that Lauras family was a part of all that was going on. Just know that if you need us we are there. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers. We love you Steve & Lori.

May all she left behind find strength, peace and comfort in the wake of loss. She was a ray of sunshine to the ISUCF'V'MB.
