Geraldine “Jerry” Spowart, 82, passed away on February 21, 2018, at Taylor House Hospice. She was born in Des Moines, on February 12, 1936, to Samuel and Bernardine Spowart.
Jerry was a graduate of North High School and Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. Throughout her career, Jerry worked at the Des Moines Register, Meredith Burda, and various hospitals in the Des Moines area, retiring from the VA Hospital. She enjoyed quilting, fishing, antiques, collectibles and her miniature Schnauzers, Holly and Rover. She was always known as Aunt Jerry and was very devoted to her nieces and nephews. Aunt Jerry loved taking them on vacations and baking them cookies.
Jerry is survived by her brother, William (Dorothy) Spowart of Humboldt; sister, Patricia Meyer of Des Moines; nephew, David (Julie) Spowart of Knoxville, niece, Teresa (Larry) Allen of McKinney, Texas; great-nieces, Paige Spowart, Samantha and Rebecca Allen; great-nephew, Kyle (Patty) Spowart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Bernardine Spowart.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service time, also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Highland Park Christian Church, in loving memory of Jerry.
The family wishes to thank all the medical staff that have assisted Jerry throughout the years.

Im sorry for your loss. I used to work with Jerry in recovery room in Methodist in 1969 & 1970. She was a very good person to work for. She had a great sense of humor. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
