LaDonna Curtis
February 13, 2018
LaDonna Curtis, 79, died peacefully with her husband and family surrounding her on February 13, 2018, at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at First Church of the Open Bible, 2200 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
LaDonna was born to Glen and Odetha Schnathorst, and grew up in various places around Iowa. She attended Indianola High School, graduating in 1956. She met Dean Curtis during her senior year and the two were married on November 23, 1956. LaDonna worked for Employers Mutual Insurance and other employers performing secretarial work.
She and Dean loved and longed for children of their own. After eight years and lots of prayer, they adopted two girls, Patty and Carla and a year later a son, Dean Jr. LaDonna’s love of children carried over to her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Outside the home she volunteered with kids at school and her church, First Church of the Open Bible, where she was a long-time member. Having a strong sense of family, LaDonna and Dean held many family gatherings over the years, both at their home and on their property at Lake Panorama. LaDonna was an avid reader, and also enjoyed watching birds, tending to flowers, riding horses, having lunch at tea rooms, and scrap-booking.
LaDonna was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Dola (Don) Allen and Nila. She is survived by her husband, Dean Curtis, Sr.; daughters, Patty Corbin and Carla Klobnak; son, Dean Curtis, Jr.; grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy (Fern) Schnathorst, Emlin (Dianne) Schnathorst, and Ivan (Barb) Schnathorst; and sisters, Opal (Darrell) Walker, and Pearl (Mike) Hutchinson.

My heart hurts and is broken for the loss of LaDonna to her family. I pray God the Father send the Comforter to visit her loved ones and give them peace. LaDonna was one of many ladies who "mothered" me during my time at the Fort.

Dean, our thoughts, love and prayers are with you and your family at this time. We mourn with you, over the passing of LaDonna and we rejoice with you that she is now with the one she loved the most...Jesus! She is pain free and whole! We are so thankful that we were able to see her one last time, at Taylor House, just before we returned to Guinea. She will always hold a very special place in our hearts! You both were very special friends of ours for a very long time! We will be with you, in spirit, at her memorial service! Tom and Sherry Moore
