Service Details

Verona E. Plew, 86, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Trinity Center at Luther Park. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 2600 Capitol Ave. with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Verona was born April 20, 1922 in Guthrie County. She taught country school in Adair County for six years. In 1946, she married Lee Plew and they moved to the Des Moines area where she was a homemaker. After raising her family, she returned to work in food service for the Des Moines Public Schools where she worked for over 20 years. She was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star, Eastgate Chapter. Verona enjoyed attending sporting events at East High and following the U of I Hawkeyes. She also enjoyed garage sales and the flea market at the statefair grounds.
Verona is survived by her son, Steve (Donna) Plew; daughter, Ellen Rynning; stepson, Larry (Barb) Plew; sister, Ruth Corrigan; brother, Richard Stephenson; five grandchildren, Steve Plew, Jr., Kevin (Janice) Plew, Ryan Plew, Kim (Darin) Casey and Amanda Rynning and five great-grandchildren, Zachary and Kayleigh Plew and Elizabeth, Emma and Andrew Casey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Plew; son-in-law, Rick Rynning; step-son, Robert Plew; brothers, Warren and Wayne Stephenson and her sister, Mary Anne Ely.
