Marion Joseph Genovese, Sr. passed away peacefully Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the age of 93.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Public visitation at 10:00 a.m.
Marion was born December 30, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Anthony and Mary (Galeno) Genovese. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He was employed for 37 years as the Safety Director & Supervisor at Marquette and Monarch Cement. After retirement, he worked 10 years for Pidgeon’s Furnishings and Baratta’s Restaurant. Marion enjoyed playing golf and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers football. He was an avid duck and goose hunter and wildlife photographer. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, and attended Lighthouse Community Church under Pastor Andy Veith.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother, he is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Jan; grandson, Christopher Genovese Shipley; granddaughter, Janiece Jaye Genovese (Brandon Brady); great-grandchildren, Olivia Annette Lewis, Ethan Webb and Blessing Taylor; siblings, Benjamin “Benny” Genovese, Mary Randazzo and Rose Gatto, all of Des Moines.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Genovese; sons, Marion “MJ” Genovese, Jr. and Stephen Genovese, Sr.; siblings, Samuel Genovese, Tony Genovese, Ross Genovese, and Josephine Fazio; and his great-granddaughter, Amy Genovese.

Jan, I am sorry to see of Marions passing. My thoughts are with you at this time. Marion was one of my bosses at the plant and I have so many memories and stories about him. He was an influence to me as I am Steves age. What a guy, fasted walking person Ive ever known.
