Quancidine Smith

Quancidine Smith was born May 5, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Martha (Williams) Wheels. She was a graduate of East High School, class of 1953, and was employed by Northwestern Bell for many years.
Family was Quancidine’s first priority. She adored her children and her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes included, shopping, travelling, and visiting Prairie Meadows. Quancidine was a member of Bethel AME Church where she served on the Usher Board.
Quancidine passed away Monday, February 5, 2018, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She was 83 years old.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Corlis S. Moody (James), Yvonne Ousley (Arthur), Grayce Lane (Vincent), Caesar Smith II (Sandra), and Robert Smith (Nichelle); her grandchildren: Chad Moore, Charisse Whitlock (Derrick), Quinci Moody, James Moody II (Ashley), Garet Turner (Lonnie), Quentin Smith, Evin Smith, Grayson Smith, Mara Smith, Spencer Smith, and Aaron Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Aujenae, Taariq, James “Tre”, Amarious, Jaiden, Serenity, Aivry, Ansley and Melody. Quancidine is also survived by her siblings: Phyllis Wheels, Vera Kemp (Harold), Robert Don E. Wheels, Byron Wheels (Crystal), Eugene Wheels (Raynelle), and Mariruth Wheels; brother-in-law, Charles Manning; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Preach” and Martha Wheels; sister, Brenda Manning; and sister-in-law, Barbara Sue Wheels.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, February 17, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at M. L. King Enclosed Shelter, 1650 Garfield Ave, Des Moines.
