John D. "Jake" Miller

John “Jake” D. Miller, 84, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018. He was born in Creston, Iowa to Jerome and Irene Miller on July 26, 1933. John was united in marriage to Margie Scadden on July 8, 1961.
John was dedicated to his family and his love for his grandkids ran deep. He never missed a sporting event or dance recital for his grandkids. John proudly ran his grandchildren around in “Papa’s Taxi” whenever needed.
John could fix anything. He could usually be found in his garage or tending to his garden. He always grew the best tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini. John was a lifetime member of the Creston Elks Club #605. He retired from the Iowa Dept. for the Blind after 20 years of service.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Margie; children, Greg (Paula) Miller, Gina West, Angie (Tracy) Constable, Joe Miller and John II (Ashley) Miller; siblings, Marie Link, Butch Miller and Marilyn Soda; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law, Mert Link and Sam Soda.
The family will greet friends Friday, February 2, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3rd at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of John.
John’s family would like to give a special thank you to Bishop Drumm Care Center and Unity Point Hospice for their care.

Whenever I would see your Dad he would always have something to say about what one of his grandkids had done that week when he was watching them or taking them somewhere, you could see him light up, he absolutely ADORED his grandbabies, and he was right, what else is there, he will be missed.
