Bernard "Barney" Langer

Bernard "Barney" Langer, 90, passed away January 30, 2018, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was born April 27, 1927, to Andrew and Nora Langer.
Bernard was born and raised in the Highland Park area, and was a true Northsider. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was chosen to participate in an Honor Flight in recognition of his service to our county.
Bernard was a member of Teamster Local #147 and Boline-Manfredi VFW Post #9662. He was also a lifelong member of Highland Park Lutheran Church where he was gifted a Quilt of Valor. In his spare time, he loved duck and pheasant hunting.
Bernard is survived by his son, Kevin Langer and Terry Dobbins; companion, Ortha Calkins; as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents; brother, Harold Langer; and brother-in-law, Donald Krieger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Highland Park Lutheran Church, 241 E. Euclid Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
Memorial contributions will be received by the family and designated to a charity at a later time.

Barney and I worked together at Bruce Motor. When I first knew Barney I was a salesman at Bruce and we bowled together on the Bruce team. Later I worked with Barney as his terminal manager. He was a top driver well liked and respected. I'm sure he will be missed.
