William (Bill) N. Powell
January 29, 2018
William (Bill) Noah Powell, age 87, went to be with his Lord, after a long struggle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia January 29, 2018, at Edencrest Riverwoods, a caring, loving assisted living facility in Des Moines. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Noah and Edna Powell. Bill graduated from Tech High School in 1948.
He married the love of his life, Charlotte Lee (Loyd) on November 17, 1950. They had recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
Bill served his country as a corporal in the Army as a cook, during the Korean War, and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, in the 3rd Armour Division.
Bill had many careers throughout his life, but his main goal was serving Christ, through fellowship. Bill knew no stranger, he always had a smile and a story to share. Bill and Charlotte were greeters at Grace Church for many years.
Bill is survived by his wife Charlotte, a daughter Luanne (George) Brendlinger, a son Mark (Soon) Powell, and his sister Erla Widaman. He also has three grandchildren; Steven Sellers, Shannon (Gary) McIntire and Matt Powell as well as a great grandchild, Caleb Brendlinger. He was predeceased by his parents Noah and Edna.
Bill and Charlotte loved getting on their Harley and riding across the United States, they enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona. He enjoyed photography, camping, fishing, hunting and hiking, for his 70th birthday he and a friend hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and out again.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Grace Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.

While Bill and I were cousins, he was the big brother I never had. Even though there was 14 years difference in our age, it was fewer years than the difference than my youngest brother and I. While Bill and I worked together over the years, doing lots of different jobs I think the thing that Bill was most proud of was that because of His Mother's rules, She is the reason that Bill and I are cousins. Aunt Edna insisted that anyone living at her house went to Grandview Park Baptist Church. That is where Mom and Dad met, and were married. Also a well known fact is that most of my aunts and uncles were save while living there.
RIP Brother, Lord knows you've paid hell here on this earth, Gonna Miss you Brother.

I was in Bill's class at Tech. We will miss him at our 70th class reunion this summer. He always had something interesting to say at our annual reunions. I hope Charlotte can attend this year.
May God bless you all.
