Alice Weber
January 29, 2018
Alice Faye (Van Gundy) Weber, 86, passed away comfortably and peacefully on January 29, 2018, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, while surrounded by her family.
Alice was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 4, 1931, to Raymond and Florence Van Gundy. She was one of ten children. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and her beloved husband of 28 years, Lowell Weber.
Alice worked at Jacobson Candy Company. She carried with her the many fond memories while she was there and cherished the friendships. She became a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her children.
Alice is survived by two siblings, Madeleine Austin and Bob Van Gundy (Diana); her children: Nora Watkins, William Raymond, Kimberly (Weber) Weaver (Randy), and Timothy Weber; her grandchildren: Melissa, Bobbie, Donnie (Tim), Sonja, Amanda, Billy, Tony, Ashley (Ryan), Cody (Lacey), and Gatlin; her great grandchildren: Megan, Allison, Devin, Colton, Dustie, Bodie, Billy, Justin, Michael, Amanda, Victoria, Sierra, Toby, Olivia, Ryder, Aiden, Kylie, Brayden, and Connor; plus other extended family and friends.
Alice had immense love for her family. She took great pride in home cooked meals and would host family dinners on Sunday where she cooked her most famous fried chicken and potato salad. She loved to garden and to can veggies. She also had quite a talent for embroidery. Her family will always remember the compassion she held for everyone in her big heart.
We would like to invite family and friends to attend a graveside service held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive in Des Moines, Iowa at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice-Johnston, 5820 Winwood Drive, Johnston, IA.50131 or New Testament Baptist Church, 3020 East 38th Street, Des Moines, IA 50317 in Alice’s memory.
A Wife, A Mother, A Grandma too,
This is the legacy that we have from you.
You taught us to love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother;
Not just as a grandma,
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you've earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep.

Grandma,
It still doesn't seem real that you are not still here with us. I walked through the store the other day and thought "Oh I should buy that for Grandma." I drove past Good Samaritan and instinctively thought about you and wanted to stop in and see you. I miss you Grandma...very.much!!! I know that you are NO LONGER in pain or suffering. I know that you are in a better place with the people that you LOVE...but I still miss you greatly!!! Rest in Peace and give them all a hard time in Heaven like you would have done here on Earth.
Hugs to you and both my Grandpa's...i miss you all bunches!!! I know that all of you are looking down.on us..i know that you will give us a sign if we aren't doing things like you think we should. Why should things be any different now that you are in heaven. Love you bunches...always and forever!!! ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!!
XOXO
