Donald "Don" Barrer
January 26, 2018
Donald (Don) Barrer, 86, passed away on January 26, 2018 after a long battle with prostate, bone and colon cancer. Don was born in Easton, Minnesota to Francis and Gladys (Keeley) Barrer. He was a 1950 East High School graduate. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1954 serving a tour in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 155.
Don worked for Northwestern Bell (Centurylink) until he retired in 1990. He farmed until 2014. He enjoyed traveling, raising horses, skiing, motorcycle trips throughout the United States and Europe, having coffee with Co-op friends, playing cards with his phone company friends, and spending time at their cabin in Minnesota with family and friends.
Don was a loving and devoted husband to his sweetheart Judith (Judy) Bjork for over 65 years, and a devoted father to their three children Diane (Barrer) Workman (Kevin), Dana Barrer, and Jerald Barrer. He is survived by his wife and children. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Mary Bjork Greve and Curdonna Cashatt Bjork; grand-daughters Annalee, Jennifer, Jessica and Joelle; great-grandchildren Gabby, Delainie, Trinity, Oliver, Ian, Preston, and Elise; and several nieces and nephews.
Per Don’s wishes, private services were held with burial at the Mitchellville Cemetery.
The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to the nursing staff, doctors and palliative care team at Methodist Hospital Powell 4 for the wonderful care Don received during his stay.
Memorials may be directed to John Stoddard Cancer Center or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or American Legion Post 155 in Mitchellville.

We lived across the Street from Don and Judy for 13 years. We could not have asked for better neighbors. We will miss Don terribly.
