Gary Govi, 84, passed from this life on Friday, January 26, 2018, to be reunited with his wife Jackie for an eternity in heaven. He died from complications of Parkinson's disease. A private burial service will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Gary was born to Raul and Victoria (Moratti) Govi in Grimes, IA. He grew up in Saylor Township, and attended East High School and Drake University. Gary is a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and met his wife while stationed at Camp Breckinridge, KY. They were married in 1955 and made their home in West Des Moines, where they raised their family.
Gary worked at the Meredith-Burda printing plant for 42 years and retired from RR Donnelley in 1993. In retirement, he enjoyed writing novels, horse racing, football, tomato gardening, movies, and his pet dogs. Gary was a member of the Graphic Communications Conference, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and a lifetime member of The Vittoria Lodge.
Gary is survived by daughters, Debbie Richards and Diane Govi; granddaughter, Ellie Richards; and cousin, Carmen Nizzi (Juan) Santiago. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Jacqueline; twin daughters, Karen and Nancy; sister, Rita; and his parents.

I was sorry to read the sad news that Gary has passed away. Now he will be reunited with Jackie, whom he dearly loved and missed. Gary was one of Buddys favorite long time friend from Canary Street.
Our families were very close and we have many many wonderful memories and pictures.
