Bernadine J. Harris

Bernadine J. (Bonser) Harris was born June 20, 1925, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to Kenneth and Peruda (Rapalyea) Bonser. She had a love of music and enjoyed playing the organ and teaching piano and organ lessons. She proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Her work included clerk/typist at the Pentagon and clerical work for the Scott County School District. Bernadine moved to Valley View Village in Des Moines in 2014 from Davenport and attended Berean Assembly of God Church.
She passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
There will be a graveside service with military honors at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
She is survived by her sons, Doug (Nancy) and Jeff (Carmen); grandchildren, David (Autumn) Harris, Jennifer (Eric) Geery, Jessica (Paul) Heaberlin, Bethany (Geronimo) Ortiz, Nadine (Sean) Waterman, and Everly Harris; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Darline Johnson; and other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Norman Bonser, and step-mother, Eleanor Bonser.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army in Bernadine’s memory.
