Judith Mathews, age 61, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018. Judy was born on August 11, 1956 in Malindi, Kenya. She grew up in Mityana, Uganda and later came to the US in 1973 with her family.

Judy graduated from Roosevelt High School class of ‘76. She held many positions throughout her life, Broadlawns Medical Center, Marriott Hotel, Metropolitan Bank, US Bank, American Republic Insurance, and was owner of Judy Mathews Insurance Agency. Judy took great pride in her career and was very successful. She also served as Treasurer of Des Moines German-American Club.

Throughout the years, she enjoyed traveling throughout the US, snow skiing and motorcycle rides along the west coast. She leaves a legacy of selflessness, generosity, compassion and grace.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Mike; siblings, Maria, Nancy, Francis, Lawrence, and Martin.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Estreliza Fernandes; and brother, Alouisys.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Basilica of St. John, 1915 University Ave, Des Moines, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday, January 26th from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
