Jerry Reid
January 11, 2018
Jerry Leigh Reid, age 77, died early Thursday morning, January 11, following a very short battle with an aggressive form of terminal cancer. He was able to spend the last few weeks of his life surrounded by family and passed away peacefully at home. Jerry is survived by his wife, Jo, children Kristen Harrigan (husband Ron Logan) of Mesa, AZ, Randy Reid (wife Sarah Parker Reid) of Des Moines and Kelly Casel (husband Mike Casel) of Ankeny, IA, and 8 grandchildren.
Jerry met his wife, Jo, at the University of Missouri and they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Jo and Jerry were inseparable, and rarely would you see one without the other. Jerry was an active member of Ankeny Community Theatre for over 30 years. He and Jo both sang with the church choir at Ankeny First United Methodist Church. He loved bowling and was a member of a league for many years. After Jerry retired from the Commerce Department for the State of Iowa he and Jo became world travelers, enjoying many cruises and trips each year – almost always to somewhere tropical! He and Jo loved going to Branson, MO, at least twice a year and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will very much miss his patronage! Jerry and Jo never missed an opportunity to see Neil Diamond and Il Divo in concert, sometimes seeing them in multiple cities during a concert tour. George Dyer in Branson was also a favorite. As family and friends have paid their respects to the family, a common theme was that Jerry was “one of the nicest men they’ve ever met.” Please feel free to share your memories and condolences with the Reid family personally, as they all are receiving comfort from the kind words of loved ones.
Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens on Friday, January 19, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church (Uptown location) at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jerry’s honor to HCI Hospice Care Services, Ankeny Community Theatre or to the charity of your choice.

So sorry to hear of Jerry's passing from his son phone call this morning.. Our condolences from our family to his wife and children.. My grandfather and my dad farmed the farmland that his dad and family once owned. Jerry was the best landlord, that was willing to try new farming practices and was a good steward of the land. We shall miss him here in Illinois as 3rd generation family farmers for his family farm.
