Sandra Gaulke
January 09, 2018
Sandra Gaulke, the daughter of Ernest and Gail Myers was born January 25, 1943, in Sac City, Iowa. She was baptized at The First Christian Church in Sac City on January 24, 1954.
She began her education in Rural Sac County (country) Schools and then to Sac City Community School where she graduated with the Class of 1961. She was united in marriage to Jerry Summers and became an instant mother to his two small children Kirby and Julie. Their union was also blessed with four more children; Ramona, Connie, Kristy and Jerry Jr. They divorced and Sandi raised her six small children as a single parent for four years before marring Kevin Gaulke. Kevin and Sandi were married on October 29, 1977.
Sandi worked for the Iowa Department of Human services for thirty years. After retirement she started a cake and baked goods business out of her home. It became so successful that her clients would not let her quit.
Sandi was very active in her church especially using her culinary skills to benefit those people at a time of need.
On January 3, 2018 at Fort Dodge Unity Point Hospital, Sandi was diagnosed with a rare stomach cancer. On January 9, 2018 at Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines, Iowa our Lord Jesus called Sandi eternally home to himself. She was 74 years, 11 months, and 15 days old.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Gail, her daughter Ramona, Sisters; Judy in infancy and LoLeta Schulte, and her Mother-in-law Doris Gaulke.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kevin, and her children Kirby (Linda) Summers of Norwalk, Iowa, Julie Summers of Dallas Center, Iowa, Connie (Bruce) Carney of Maxwell, Iowa, Kristy (Scott) Garber of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jerry (Sherry) Summers, Jr. of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. A brother Ernest Myers (Melinda) of Louisville, Kentucky and two sisters; Lois (Dale) Bunting of Bentonville, Arkansas and Linda (Charles) Bettin of Lake View, Iowa. Sandi is survived by 13 grandchildren, Amber (Kendel), Jared (Cheyenne), Derek (Sadie), Amanda (Chris), Nicholas (Lacey), Erica, Brian (Haley), Zoe, Grace, Drake, Abigail, Drew, Landen and 7 great grandchildren, Cooper, Gabe, Maely, Ainsley, Oliver, Cleo and Lexie; Father-in-law Leo Gaulke; as well as many extended family members, and a host of friends.
A Christian burial was granted January 13, 2018, at Elkhart Christian Church, Elkhart, Iowa, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will also be held at the church from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday. A private interment will be made at Franklin Township Cemetery until the resurrection of the body at the second-coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for lunch in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the funeral service.
