Charles “Charlie” Mincks, age 82, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Mercy Hospice. Charlie was born on April 22, 1935 in Hiteman, Iowa

Charlie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. Upon his return he began work for the U.S. Post Office for 35 years. Charlie was a member of Heritage Word of Life Church in Mitchellville. Some of his hobbies and interests included, collecting model cars, antiquing, golfing, avid Iowa State Fair fan, and listening to Elvis. Charlie especially enjoyed driving and taking the scenic route. He could always be found with a huge smile on his face and loved making others laugh. He will be lovingly remembered as a funny guy, independent, but also a private man. Above all, his family was very important to him and he treasured every moment spent with them.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; children, Alisa (Keith), Lana (Michael), Amanda (Chris), and Christopher (Sydney); grandchildren, Aurora (Brock), Matthew, Eric, Kennidie, Tara, Tyler, Jacob, and Delilah; great-grandchild, Brynley; sister, Alice (Willard); and a host of friends and family.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nettie Mincks; siblings, Fred, Phil, George, Tom, Jim, Dean, and Marjorie.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13th, also at the funeral home followed by burial at Bondurant Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for Iowa Cancer Fund in memory of Charlie.
