Leland D. Young
January 05, 2018
Leland Duane Young, 69, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. Leland was born May 6, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised on the East side by his parents, Richard and Mary Young. Leland was drawn to trucks at an early age and went to work shagging cars for Howard Sober, Inc. while at East High School. This led to becoming a casual for Teamster Local 147, where he soon landed a permanent job for Roadway Trucking Co. Leland then became an owner/operator with his wife, Ann of “two big rigs,” as we teased him, before ending his career with JMT.
Leland loved NASCAR, car races of all kinds, and especially going to Knoxville. He was giving to a fault, with friends too many to count, let alone name them. He lived life just as Frank Sinatra sang it! Known as Leland, Dad, or Grandpa to his family, Lee and Blue to his friends, but loved by all.
He is survived by his children, Mike Webb, Lee Stole, and Jill Andreano, two grandchildren, one great-grandson whom he was so excited and of whom he was very proud, brother, Larry Young (Nancy), sister, Marsha Reidburn (Ron/Butch), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Barb Nobbman, the mother of his sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ann, and brother, David.
The family would like to thank his friends at Hickory Ridge, Shay, Sally and Lisa, for watching out for and after Leland. The family would also like to thank Dr. Alexandra Hubbell, nurses, and staff at Iowa Lutheran Hospital for taking such good care of Leland the last couple of years.
There will be a memorial service at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Brethren Cemetery in Maxwell, Iowa.
Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Lee, was a good and generous man. I have known Lee for only 7 years but we developed a strong relationship and he was like a father figure. He was fun to be around always cracking jokes. I would always stop by to meet him when ever I visited DesMoines.. He would always introduce me as his Son to all his freinds. He would generously offer me his car or what ever I needed during my stay in Iowa. He will be missed!!
