Patricia Woods
January 05, 2018
Patricia Woods, age 59, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018. Patricia was born the daughter of Charles Callaway and Evelyn Wagner on November 1, 1958, in Des Moines Iowa.
Patricia Woods attended Des Moines Technical High School and continued with a few years of college. Patricia eventually moved to California and lived in Long Beach. She was married to Sammy Junior Woods and out of that union was born Sameckia T. Woods and Nukenia A. Woods both in Des Moines Iowa. After some time the family moved to Dallas Texas, where Patricia pursued a career in nursing. A few years later Patricia moved back to Des Moines Iowa, where her parents and siblings resided, to raise her girls and help with the family. She loved gatherings with her entire family. She traveled with the family on many occasions just to have Fun and loved to shop.
Patricia Woods was engaged as an entrepreneur and owned many businesses successfully. Many people think that the Food Trucks are a new thing, but Patricia was known to be a very good cook, and had her own Food Truck. She was the first black woman to own a Dollar Store here in Des Moines, and in addition to that, she owned her own ladies boutique, at two locations Des Moines and Ankeny Iowa along with an online business, “Pat’s Boutique”.
Patricia Woods loved The Lord and traveled to many church events and conventions. She was a longtime member of Evangelistic Missionary COGIC, then moved her membership to New Friendship COGIC, and the remaining years with Mission Temple Church COGIC. Sister Patricia Woods was "Saved, Sanctified and Filled with the Holy Ghost and that with FIRE!" She was a true Prayer Warrior, she prayed all of the time and for anyone. Sister Patricia never met a stranger and was very eager to share God’s Word with others. She always encouraged others to go to church, invited them to go along with her; and even offered to pick them up. She was a very encouraging, positive, strong willed and determined woman. She never let much get in her way of achieving her goals.
She is survived by her children, Sameckia T. Oakley and Nukenia A. Woods; grandchildren, Malaysia Oakley, Chyia Mitchell and a grandson on the way; siblings, Anthony, Theresa (Kevin), Telisa, Jes Shonta, Lennetta and Oneda; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; Patricia was a mother to many and adopted Kevin, Jerray and Lennetta.

An O.G. Trooper till the end, To Sam and family, Pat and I go back when there was not questions for morals, morals were part of our makeup, I ALWAYS admired pat's strength bc through good or bad times that beautiful infectious smile would break through, she would always speak of God,Pat did not play the fence nor was she a pushover, she was one of the few left I could call friend, she would tell me I love you but, watch that road, working with you sam you definitely are a chip off my ole school buddy pat and I love you
