Charlotte Hutchison

Peace and human rights activist Charlotte P. (Sherry) Hutchison died January 1, 2018, at age 98. She was born January 13, 1919, in Philadelphia, PA, and graduated from Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, PA in 1940. She and Lawrence O. (Larry) Hutchison were married in Berkeley, CA, on May 18, 1945. He died in March, 1988.

She is survived by two sons, Perry Charles Hutchison (Suzanne Smith), Tigard, OR, and Lawrence Snowden (Lon) Hutchison, Primghar, IA; two grandchildren, Andrew Hutchison and Emmalyn Smith; and a wide circle of friends.

She was a member of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, League of Women Voters, and National Society of Colonial Dames in America.

A memorial service will be held at the Des Moines Valley Friends Meeting, 4211 Grand Ave., Des Moines, 515-274-4717; date to be determined. Memorial gifts may be made to Des Moines Valley Friends Meeting; American Friends Service Committee (Iowa Program); or Friends Committee on National Legislation, Washington, DC.
