Larry E. Sloan

Larry E. Sloan, 65, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, with his family by his side.
Larry was born March 21, 1952, in Des Moines, to the late James E. Sloan and Ethel (Morgan) Sloan. He attended East High School and worked with his dad in the furniture business before becoming a self-employed Master Floor Layer. Larry enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a Newton Track member. He was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, the surprise of his life.
He touched many lives through the auctions. He always liked everyone he met and was always ready to help anyone. The joy of his life were his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Larry met Jackie Stevenson in 2002 and they raised three grandchildren plus one son.
Larry is survived by his wife, Jackie, mother-in-law, Shirley Sowles, son, Larry Stevenson (Jenny), daughter-in-law, Carolyn, grandchildren, Latisha Cobb (Nick), Dawn (Adam), Lily, Juan, Diego, and Alexis, Michael and Aiden Stevenson whom he raised, and four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mason, Ben and Sam. Larry is also survived by his sisters, Becky Earl and Linda Thompson (Shanon), brother, James Jr., and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carolyn Chiles, and his sons, Dale and Dennis Stevenson.
Larry will be cremated and there will be no service. Donations to help pay for his service can be sent to Jackie for Larry Sloan in care of Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, IA 50309. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

So sorry to see in the paper about Larry passing. That makes 2 that day I lost friends. Thoughts and Prayers to Jackie and the rest of his friends and family!

I am very sorry to hear about Uncle Larry passing. Brandy and Buddy please know how much your grandfather loved you and will deeply miss you.
It saddens my heart that Larry and Jim two brothers did not get the chance to say their goodbyes.
