Carlos Maurice Winters

Carlos Winters, age 67, passed away on December 22, 2017. He was born on September 16, 1950 in Coffeeville, Kansas.
Carlos was a kind, quiet soul. He was married to Carmen Jackson for 42 years. They were known for their Annual Thanksgiving Bus trip to New Orleans for the Bayou Classic, their trips to Vegas and for his love of cars.
He loved games! He was a diehard Hawkeye fan, an avid bowler and a fisherman. He loved playing dominoes and checkers. He collected and loved comic books, jelly beans and Chuckles.
Carlos worked for The State of Iowa for over 25 years. He was the security/ warehouse controller for the State of Iowa Lottery distributing the state’s lottery tickets. After retirement he looked forward to his monthly get-togethers with his Iowa Lottery buddies at Maxies.
He was an ordained Deacon under the pasturage of the late Rev. Phillip Tindrell of St. John Baptist Church. He was a member of Cornerstone Family Church where he attended regularly until his illness prevented.
Family will greet friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife Carmen; 3 children; 12 grandchildren; sister, Twyla (Robert) Woods-Buford; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

Dear Twyla, Carmen, Billie and the entire family--I am so very sorry to hear about Carlos. I always saw him being very kind, quiet and flashing that warm smile to all in his presence. I will continue to keep everyone in my thoughts and prayers.
