Richard Lewis Patterson

Richard Lewis Patterson, 71, passed away December 18, 2017. Services will be held Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Church, 3114 SW 61st St. in Des Moines, IA.

Richard was born September 15, 1946 to Phyllis (Carter) and Robert Patterson. He enjoyed playing sports in his younger years as a pitcher in little league and was a member of the basketball and tennis teams in high school. Following graduation from high school, Richard attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Civil Engineering degree. He then married Debbie and joined the US Air Force. The couple had two sons, Billy and Danny. The family settled in the Chicago area where Richard worked as an accountant. He was later transferred to Saudi Arabia where he managed the accounting office for a power station. Richard lost Debbie to cancer and later met his wife, Kaek while in Thailand. They moved back to Des Moines where Richard worked as a convenience store manager and later worked as an accountant for the State of Iowa until his retirement. He was an active member of Cornerstone Church and also part of the Hot Dog Ministry. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and pickleball.

He is survived by his sons, William and Daniel; brother, Thomas (Snookie); and many friends.
