Judy Hershey, warrior, hero, horror movie enthusiast, tall-tale teller, 67, of Altoona, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
The daughter of Lillian and Charles Bennett, she was born on September 24, 1950, in Algona, Iowa.
Judy is survived by her children, Angie Olson, Michelle Bush (Allen), Christie Carlson, Valarie Moore, Chuck Hershey (Kim); grandchildren, Venessa, Mathew, Sheldan, Alex, Taylor, Austin, Jocelyn, Jayden, Noah, Elijah, Aiden, Colton, Payton, Ryker, Josiah, Brooke; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Charles Bennett, brother, Rodney and sister, Romona.
Judy’s greatest treasure was her family. She loved music and dancing. She enjoyed crochet and loved to travel to visit friends and family. Judy had a heart full of giving and helping anyone who needed a hand. She was selfless and generous. A stranger was quickly made to be a friend. She made everyone laugh. Those who knew her best will always remember the silly things and amazing stories she had to tell. She was loved by many.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St SW, Altoona. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Our sincere sympathy to all of you who lost your mom, grandma and great grandma. Your mom will be remembered has a well liked person with many friends. We will treasure our many memories of her and the fun times. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May she Rest In Peace until we meet again when God calls us home to Him. Judy was a good friend to me ,she helped me when I neeeded a place to go and she was very friendly and she was always great ful. She has been like a second sister to me! I love you and wil miss you deeply!
