Sheryl Ray Akers, 73, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Sheryl was born November 1, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to LeRoy and Pauline Akers. She was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was honorably discharge in 1967. Sheryl enjoyed baking. She had a passion for taking care of others and enjoyed her job in the nursing field. Above all else, Sheryl treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a soft spot in her heart for dogs, especially pit bulls and she loved her pit bull, Bow Wow.

She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie, Tammy, and Stacie; grandchildren, Aliza, Cacao, Chianni, Davon, Evian, Dorsey, Ellisha, R.J., Kaelen, Michael, Kainen and Marquis; great-granddaughter, Mia; brothers, Robert, John and Phil; and her sister, Virginia.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Pauline (Timpson) Akers; son, Franklin; brother, Richard and her furry four-legged friend, Bow Wow.

There will be no services held at this time.

Sheryl was a childhood friend of mine and we continued our friendship until she left for the navy. I have so many great memories of time spent with her and my sister, Jean. We spent our days riding our bikes around town and just having good clean fun. I was so very sorry to hear she had passed on and my sympathy goes out to her family on their loss.
