Dean Follon
December 09, 2017
Dean Henry Follon was born on February 24, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa. His parents were Elwyn Ray and Gladys Rene Winterboer Follon of Everly, Iowa. Dean was raised on the family farm near Everly with crops, cattle, and horses. He graduated from Everly High School in 1958 and moved to Des Moines to work at John Deere in Ankeny. He was laid off from John Deere and began to work for an Insulation Company.
He then met Marva and married in 1961. They moved the family to Everly, Iowa in 1964 and began their life farming with his father. Their farm consisted of crop farming soybeans, corn, alfalfa, oats. He enjoyed milking cows daily, feeding cattle and hogs. He also had several horses that he loved and cared for. Most people knew that Dean had a talent for building, fixing things, welding things, and was an excellent farmer. Dean had many friends and fellow farmers in several towns in the area and he enjoyed visiting with them. He loved the farming life.
They moved to Colorado in 1982 to experience the mountains. He worked as a ranch hand at a horse ranch campground in the town of Grand Lake, Colorado. He moved back to Iowa and eventually to reside in his home in Beaverdale. He worked as the Building Superintendent and Groundskeeper at Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 28 years.
He loved to fish, play cards, working with his hands, being in the outdoors. He was a proud and protective father who cared deeply for his family and others. He enjoyed helping members of the Church and friends with mowing and scooping snow, and occasional "Handyman" jobs.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Elwyn Follon; his brother, William Follon; and his sister, Shirley Follon Rinehart. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Blair; children: son, Eric Follon and his wife Liz, their children Tyler and Ethan; daughter, Beth Follon Schoenewe and her husband Greg, their son Tucker; daughter, Suzy Miller and her husband Ron, their children Amber, Ian and Lexy; son, Rob White, his children Jennifer, Robyn and Kelley; daughter, Marcie Lago and husband Larry, their children Austin and Ashley; and 10 great grandchildren; and his cat ZsaZsa.

I was shocked and saddened to just learn of Dean's death . My sincere sympathy to his family. I know he loved you all so much. I can't begin to count all the ways Dean was kind and good to me,and many others, over the years we worked together at the church. Every time I plant grass seed I think of him as he taught me the "right" way to do it, and indeed, it does always grow better. May you all find comfort in remembering , and feel the close presence of God.

To Dean's family,
I send our condolences. I just wanted to make sure that you found his large white trailer. He said he was going to store it somewhere but not sure if he did. Sorry I didn't ask Eric or Beth during the reception.

I am so, so sorry to hear of this. I worked with Dean for many years and know his presence will be sorely missed in so very many ways. He was a co-worker, but more importantly, my friend. He and my late husband were great friends as well. I find comfort that they are heavenly friends together again. May God's love surround you, and God's grace sustain you all during this difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dean's family. Dean and Marva was one of the first neighbors to welcome us into the neighborhood when we got married. We had a lot of good times with them working together and visiting with them. Even when Dean lived in Des Moines and came home for visits, he would stop in. What good times we had. RIP Till We Meet Again !!

During my church membership, 1997-2014, I enjoyed many encounters with Dean. My Sundays office volunteering, for many years, offered so many opportunities to get to know Dean and appreciate his dry sense of humor. He was a kind, generous man. My prayers are with his entire family.

I was shocked to hear of Dean's death, and grieve this loss deeply. You all are in my prayers. Dean would do anything for those of us he took such good care of. I was blessed to know him. Marva, I miss you and pray God's presence surrounds you at this time and in the days ahead.

My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Dean's family and friends. I truly enjoyed working with him and will never forget what a caring soul he was. I remember him as quick with a wry smile and a joke and I was touched by his kindness on many occasions. My condolences go out to those who knew and loved him.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the Follon family. Dean was the first person I saw on my first day at work. He was sitting on his rider mower and smiled back. Dean was a very caring man. He would put air on my tires when he saw them slightly deflated. He also helped put air on tires of some church members who lived near the Church. He put together my desk and bolted it to the wall to make sure it didn't fall on me. He didn't have to do these deeds but he did, out of the goodness of his heart. He was proud of his kids and grandkids. We shared the same pride for our Eagle Scouts. Bless your heart, Dean.
