John LeRoy Morris 83 passed away at the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle, IA Dec 7, 2017. John was born Oct 2, 1934 in Wilmington, DE to James A and Sallie Amanda (Foraker) Morris. In 1952 he married Alice C Davis. John moved his family from Delaware to Iowa in 1964. He worked at the Des Moines Register and Tribune for 31 years, retiring in 1996.

He is survived by his children, James E. of Omaha, NE, Sally I. (Larry) Hovorka of Payette, ID, Catherine P. Morris of West Des Moines, IA and Marion Morris of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Patty (Alan) Waage, April (Tory) Thompson, Joseph (Kim) Hovorka, Joslyn Hovorka, Joseph Morris and Angela Morris; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Abagail, Heather, Destiny, Bret, Katie, Jordon, Trevor, and Travis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

John enjoyed his visits from his longtime friend, Wayne Rexroat, these past few months reminiscing about old times, especially hunting, fishing and working together at the Register.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sons, John A. and Raymond A.; and his sisters, Nellie Sharpe, Agnes Walters and Alma Lyman.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Carlisle Care Center for taking care of their Dad this past year.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2017, with funeral service following at 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.
