Service Details

Raleigh Burdette Veach, 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Taylor House. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1503 SE 6th St. of which he was a member. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Raleigh was born on October 18, 1921, to Loren and Celia Veach near Numa, Iowa. After graduation from Cincinnati High School, he moved to Des Moines where he started attending Grandview Park Baptist Church and it was there under the ministry of A.D. Mohr that he realized his need of a Savior and asked the Lord Jesus to save him. Raleigh served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during World War II. After a medical discharge, he moved back to Des Moines and started classes at A.I.B. where he met the girl who later became his mate for life, Virginia. They were married on June 9, 1951 at G.V.P.B Church. Raleigh retired from the IRS in February of 1978 after 28 years of service. After retirement he spent time babysitting his grandchildren. Raleigh was very active in his church, enjoyed fishing and being with family and friends.
Raleigh was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy; and his sisters, Mildred, Elsie, Ruth and Grace. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia; daughter, Debi (Steve)Dewein; sons, Dan Veach and Tim (Dar)Veach; sister, Cora Lepper; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
