Leonard L. Johnson
November 29, 2017
Leonard Lawrence Johnson was born January 8, 1940, in Lovilia, Iowa, to Frances and Everett Johnson, Sr. In 1955, the family moved to Des Moines. Leonard graduated from East High School in 1958. He was united in marriage with Jan Foster in 1963, and to this union a son, Jeff, was born.
A faithful employee at Economy Forms for 45 years, Leonard performed his duties of a welder with precision. So meticulous was his work that he was sent to many sites – Georgia, Hawaii and Chile, to name a few – to work on special projects that the company was contracted to do. He had retired in 2007.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, music, sports, working on cars, and going to car shows.
Leonard passed away Wednesday morning, November 29, 2017, at his home in Des Moines at the age of 77.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenny. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Jan; son, Jeff; brothers, Everett Jr. and Dave; sisters, Ernestine Tindrell, Marilan Tate and Shirley Daniels; grandchildren, Jadyn, Aleah and Jake, all of Des Moines. Left to his remembrance is a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Leonard’s memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 4th, also at Hamilton’s, and will conclude with burial at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

I am praying for my entire Johnson family, especially Jan and Jeff. Leonard was such a fun person to be around. I always looked forward to seeing him at Thanksgiving when mom and I would go down to Aunt Frances house after leaving our other family. He loved playing around with us kids! He will truly be missed. Love you all!
