Ronald Gordon

Ronald L. “Ron” Gordon, 72, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Ron was born January 20, 1936 to Robert and Gladys (Porter) Gordon in Des Moines. He graduated from Lincoln High School. Ron worked for Boss Hotels and in retail sales before moving to Las Vegas where he was a slots manager at the Aladdin Hotel and continued in the gaming industry for various other hotels for over 20 years. After moving back to Iowa, he worked as a gaming consultant at various casinos and assisted in opening the first riverboat casino in Illinois, the Alton Belle. Ron was also an excellent carpenter. He owned several businesses in the Des Moines area, a furniture store, a restaurant and lounge and a carpentry business. Ron had a great love for music. He played guitar, bass guitar and sang in his own local bands. He enjoyed movies, fishing, live entertainment, family get-togethers and time with friends.
Ron is survived by his daughers, Rhonda (Steve) Campbell, Pam (Bill) Allison, Ellen Bedenbender, Shawna Hamilton and Debbie Gordon; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy; brothers, Robert and Roy; and sisters, Betty and Ellen.

On behalf of everyone who knew and worked with Roy (Ron's brother) here in the Quad Cities, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences. We are so sorry to hear of Ron's sudden illness and passing. Hard to believe that almost two months to the day we all lost Roy, and now this. Our hearts go out to you. I was so sorry and saddened to hear of the passing of your dad, he and my dad (Bob Knox) were very good friends from childhood on up. Know that you are all in my thoughts as we all mourn the loss of a very dear man.
