November 25, 2017
Larry Barry, 71, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017, at his home in Des Moines. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. A Masonic Service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
If you met Larry, you were his friend. He had an innate ability to connect with people, assuming the best in everyone and accepting them for who they were. Larry was a proud grandfather, father, and loyal friend. He played weekly cards with the same group for over 30 years. He also appreciated classic cars and enjoyed traveling. Larry was a true entrepreneur, always excited to explore new opportunities.
Larry was born, February 27, 1946 in Fredericktown, PA to Margaret Benci and Steven Barry. They both preceded Larry in death along with his first wife, Jean Dorazio Barry. He is survived by his children, Jim, Michelle (Jesse Nemeth), Dan (Anne) and Dave (Jamie) Barry; his grandchildren, Mabel, Oak, Ava, Lillia, Jaxson, Asher, and Alice; his brother, Steve Barry; and his former wife of 24 years and life-long friend, Elaine Barry.

We are so sorry for your loss. We remember the good times we had with Larry and the family at dinners, pool parties and of course the Clive festivals. Larry was always friendly and a friend to everyone. We pray that in time the family will get the comfort they need to get through this difficult time. Remember all the great memories you have as that will help you get through the days ahead.

So many wonderful memories... so many that cannot be condensed into a few short words. I'm thankful to each and all of you who express your love and grief. I speak for all of us in the family on this. Larry, Dad, Grandpa is going to want us to celebrate, not cry, not be consumed by mourning. "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 Dad was blessed at my baptism this past Sunday. LB is in a good place. jim at jbarry.org

Such a wonderful man. He will be missed by so many. I will never forget him giving me the yellow thunderbird to drive for two weeks. Mike was at camp for the Air Guard. I was working at the bar that night and he came in to visit me. He asked where Mike was and I told him. He knew I loved that Yellow Thunderbird. He asked me for my car keys. I of coarse handed them to him, it's Larry why wouldn't you. He handed me his key's to his baby. He said you drive that for two weeks like it's yours. I was in shock. A couple of day's later I am crossing tracks downtown coming home from work very gently and slowly. This white jeep flys up behind me and honks. My finger went straight up ( top was down) at the person behind me. My phone rings I answer and Larry says you working at the bar tonight? Yeah I am working. Then he says why did you just flip me off. We laughed about that every time we seen each other. One of many great memories. Fly high my friend. My deepest sympathy to all his family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
