Louise Marie Norpel, 92, passed away on April 9, 2008 at home with Norbert, her loving husband of 71 years at her side. Louise was born in Lansing, Iowa on July 8, 1915 to Peter and Margaret Rachor. Her family moved to Green Island, Iowa then Bellevue, Iowa. After graduating from Bellevue High School, she attended Clark College. Louise met Norbert C. Norpel in 1932 and they were married on August 4, 1936. Their son Norbert Keith Norpel was born in 1937. The family moved to Des Moines in 1939, where Louise was a homemaker and a devoted mother to Norbert Keith until his death in 1964. She also assisted her husband for many years in his accounting and insurance business.
Louise was a member of Visitation/Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church since 1939. She was the past president of the Visitation Rosary Society and Dowling Ladies Guild. She was the leader of the Catholic Diocesans’ Club study group. Louise was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, the Bishop Drumm Guild, St. Vincent de Paul Auxiliary and St. Anne’s Mothers Club. She visited Union Park Care Center as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Louise was known to be an excellent baker, seamstress and she loved to crochet and make crafts of all sorts. She taught many of her nieces and some of her nephews how to make butter cream mints, bake pies and make net balls.
Louise is survived by her husband, Norbert, and many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Norbert K. Norpel; her parents, Peter and Margaret Rachor; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita (Rudy) Kemp and Jean (Bob) Hannam; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Rich (Janaan) Norpel, Eileen (Harold) Lewis, Carma (Melvin) Hoff, Mary (Herbert) Stewart and Jane Ann (Robert) Burken; as well as several nieces and nephews.
