LaDonna “Kay” Sorter met Jesus, her Lord and Savior, with open arms at her home on Monday, April 7, 2008.
The family will receive friends at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2008. Services for Kay will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the funeral home with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery
Kay was born on July 2, 1941 in Chariton, Iowa, the daughter of Rex and Harriett Gartin. Shortly after, the family moved to Des Moines, where Kay spent the rest of her life. She was employed with the Iowa Department of Revenue until her retirement in 2004.
Kay was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard Rush; second husband, Ray Sorter; her parents, three sisters; and one brother.
Kay was a member of Jordan United Methodist Church. She loved to help the homeless and the poor. She liked to spend her free time cooking, sewing and in her beloved garden where she felt closest to God.
Kay leaves her loving companion of many years, Jim Baker; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews; and many church friends.
For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to Jordan United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
