Alex Negrete

Alexander “Alex” Negrete was born May 20, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Santiago and Severa (Torres) Negrete. He had been a resident of the Des Moines area his entire life. Alex proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was recognized for his service by being able to take part in the Honor Flight in 2014. Alex worked for Rock Island Railroad for 26 years during his career and went on to retire from Electrolux. He enjoyed staying active and good health all of his life. He loved softball and enjoyed his years coaching his daughters’ teams. He liked Charlie Pride music, square dancing, camping and fishing in his free time. But above all else, he loved his family and treasured all the time he was able to spend with them.
Alex passed away peacefully Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Prairie Hill Senior Living in Des Moines at the age of 83.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Cindy (Bill) Woodhall, Kim (Lee) Watson, Phillip, Steve (Stephanie), and Danielle (Santos) Duran; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank; and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Severa Negrete; 8 siblings; and his grandson, Armando Duran.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 25, also at Hamilton’s. Burial with military honors will take place at 12:30 p.m., Monday, November 27, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA.

I want to send my condolences to the family of Alex Negrete. The word of God give us many words to comfort us at a time as this. This is what is said in the Bible at Revelation 21:4, " An he will wipe out every tear from their eyes,an death will be no more.... "

I'm sorry that you have lost Alex. I worked with him on the Rock Island. Honest hard working and had a great love for his Family.
