Jim Janes

James Edward Janes, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, November 17, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born March 4, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Earl and Mabel (Nelson) Janes. He graduated from Carlisle High School. While still a student, he began working as a meat cutter and continued his career in the industry for over 45 years. Jim proudly served with the National Guard and Reserves. The most important things to Jim were God and family. He was a devout Christian and a Gideon. He was a former member of Valley Evangelical Free Church in West Des Moines and more recently attended New Hope Assembly of God Church.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan Janes; children, Ken Whitehead II, Ric (Teri) Janes, Jeff (Lorine) Janes, Diana (John) Schneider, and Juliana (Randy) Duncan; son-in-law, Ted Phillips; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, John Janes and Ken (Sharon) Janes; sisters, Reba Skinner and Dorothy Logan; and numerous other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mabel Janes; daughter, Laura Phillips; and brothers, Bill Janes and Bob Sweat.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2017. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Suncrest Hospice in appreciation of their compassionate care of Jim.

I loved my grandpa very much. I know that he loved me. He was the face of Jesus to this world and he will be so deeply missed.

Jim was a wonderful Christian man and it was obvious that he loved Jesus so much. We will miss Jim at our Saints Alive monthly lunches at Valley Church!! I am praying for your family.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Jim was a special man. He had so much love in his heart for everyone. I understand how broken hearted you are, losing such a man is hard but God is near you and He cares, lean on Him and know we are keeping you in our prayers.
