G. Arlene “Sue” Mack, 84, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Valley View Village Health Center after a battle with cancer. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2pm Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Valley View Village Chapel. Per Sue’s wishes her body has been cremated.
Sue was born August 10, 1923 in Davenport to Golda and Clarence Smith. She graduated from Davenport Central High School. Sue worked as a secretary at Alter and Sons in Davenport, was an operator at the telephone company in Fort Dodge and was a bookkeeper at an insurance company in Des Moines. Sue was an active member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Church choir, the handbell choir and the Memorial Committee. Sue was also a member of the Iowa Postal History Society, the Des Moines Philatelic Society and the Trans Mississippi Philatelic Society.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Don Heefner and husband, Al mack. Brother, Orville (Bud) Smith, sister, Ciretta Younkin and step-daughter, Jean Hilton. Sue is survived by her sister, Ardis Hoepner of Davenport, Step-daughter, Lois Griffith of Pauley Island, S.C. and many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Valley View Village or Staves Memorial United Methodist Church.
