Oscar Bailey

Oscar Wayne Bailey, 84, of Mitchellville, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Bickford Cottage in Urbandale, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at the Mitchellville Christian Church. Burial with military honors will take place in the Mitchellville Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2008, at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mitchellville Rescue Unit, who through their prompt good care on several occasions gave us more wonderful years to spend with Oscar.
Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Edith; his children; Wayne (Gillian) Bailey of Tempe, Arizona and Sharon (Craig) Payne of Mitchellville; grandchildren, Brandt Payne of Honolulu, Hawaii, Laura (Cormac) Cannon of Austin, Texas, Alison and Caroline Bailey of Tempe, Arizona; and his sister, Jennie (Mrs. Lloyd) Cafferty of Altoona, Iowa. Preceding Oscar in death were his parents; three brothers, Paul, William and Clifford; two sisters, Effie (Mrs. Gerold) Gilbert and Bessie (Mrs. Homer) Boothroy.
The son of Jesse and Maude Carr Bailey, he was born March 3, 1924 at Mitchellville, Iowa. He attended Mitchellville School. He was married to Edith Wilson on January 19, 1946 in Newton, Iowa. Mr. Bailey was a farmer in the Mitchellville, Altoona and Bondurant area. He was a proud Marine Veteran of World War II. Oscar enjoyed woodworking, antique tractors, hunting, dancing and spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a member of the Mitchellville Christian Church. Oscar was also a member of the Central Iowa 2-Cylinder club.
