Thelma Thompson

Thelma Lucile Burnham, daughter of Theodore and Emily Burnham, was born February 21, 1926, in rural Jasper County, Iowa. She passed away November 12, 2017, at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, Iowa.
Thelma graduated from Grinnell High School in 1943 and was united in marriage to Oral Leeman Thompson on June 20, 1943. Over the years, Thelma worked many jobs while continuing to care for her family, farm, and garden. She retired from the Southeast Polk School District in 1991.
Thelma is survived by her son, Stephen (Marilyn) Thompson; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Thompson; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren, 6 step great great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marge Logli. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; their 3 sons Gerald, Ronald, and Randall; and her sisters, Betty and Joann.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2017, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona, Iowa. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Altoona Cemetery or Suncrest Hospice in loving memory of Thelma.

Over the past several years I've appreciated the kindness Oral & Thelma showed when I visited them at Prairie Vista. When Oral passed Thelma continued to show the same kindness each time we visited. She was sincerely appreciated at our church and her kind spirit will be missed.
