James "Poppy" Hohl
November 10, 2017
Our father, a deeply private man, told us that when he passed from this Earth he wasn’t sure that he wanted an obituary published. Then he said, “If you do, whatever you do, don’t say you lost me, it will make you sound ridiculously irresponsible.” So, what we will tell you is our father lived. Our father lived, he loved and he was very, very loved in return.
While we have not lost him, we will surely look for him. We will look for him in the first blooms of spring. We will listen for him in the song of the birds of the early morning. We will search for him in the chorus of his favorite songs and the smiles of his beloved grandchildren. These are the places we know we will find him.
As Jim requested, there will be no formal service. Instead, we request that you join his wife and best friend Mary Gale, his children Aaron Hohl and Amanda Clark, Phil and Cindi De Meyer and his beloved grandchildren Jack, Bryan and Madelline in a celebration of life. We ask that you celebrate life by dancing in the kitchen with someone you love or calling your children and grandchildren to tell them you love them. Share a cup of coffee and good conversation with a friend or thank a veteran for his/her service. Paint, create or plant something beautiful in the world, for these are all the things our father loved most in this life.
Jim’s wife, children and grandchildren will be greeting friends and family on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation or volunteering at your local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House. Help us keep Poppy’s legacy alive by supporting others like he has always supported all of us.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jeanne Giddings for her friendship and compassionate care of our father.
Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Dear Gale, Aaron and Cindi,
What a beautiful obituary for a wonderful husband, father and "poppy." I am certain that Jim would have been proud of this obituary, but not as proud as he was of his family.
God bless all of you.
Sincerely,
John, Jenny, Annie and Joey Johnson

I do not know you or your family or your father that you will be searching for in the years to come. I recognized the name and read his obit on Hamilton's website. I am a volunteer at RMH house and think I may recognize his name from there - I am not sure. But the obit you have written for him touched me deeply and am drawn to let you know how deeply fortunate you are to have had such a lovely man in your life. God bless you during this transition.

You don't know me, but we just "lost" our mother too. She also hated the euphemisms. The obit you wrote touched my heart because it is so much like our mother. We cried while reading it, then had to laugh because we wished we would have come up with the lovely sentiment first. Prayers to your family.
