Robert Cotter, age 82, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 9, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born to JD and Tina Cotter on April 24, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Robert overcame Polio in 1950 as a young boy. He graduated from East High School in 1954, after graduation he enlisted in the Air Guard from 1954 – 1968. He began work as a plasterer, and for Delavan Manufacturing in 1956. Robert became a Firefighter for the Des Moines Fire Dept. from 1961 - 1989. He was a property owner of mobile home parks for 35 years. Some of Robert’s hobbies and interests include, woodworking, fishing, and collecting toys and trinkets. He especially enjoyed time spent at their vacation cabin in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Most importantly, he loved his family and was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 60 years, Marion; children, Steven (Norma) Cotter, Jay (Mary) Cotter, and Robin McDaniel; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2017, with funeral service following at 4:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 13th at Elm Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either the Iowa Firefighter’s Memorial, PO Box 7, Traer, IA 50675 or Des Moines Fire Department Honor Guard.

I remember Bob and Marion at the Tuesday night auctions. He was always looking at the "boxes". Took me some time to put Bob and Steve together as father and son, though. Deepest sympathy to the Cotter family.
