Charles "Charley" Dyer
November 04, 2017
Charles “Charley” LeRoy Dyer, 80, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Charley was born December 6, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of James Willis Dyer and Mary Madeline (Thompson) Dyer. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area and a proud Eastsider. Charley graduated from East High School in 1955. He fulfilled many positions during his working years including being a roofer, working in construction, doing office desk work and computer programming, and working in sales and customer service. Retired in 2004, Charley was never one to sit still. He was always on the move and needed to keep busy at all times. Family will remember fondly that whenever he was sent to the store, he always came home with twice as much stuff. Family was his first priority and he loved helping people. Charley enjoyed traveling, especially his trips to Prairie Meadows. He was known for being able to fix everything and he never knew a stranger. Charley was a faithful member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill and considered his fellow members part of his family. He looked forward to the church spaghetti dinners and was a strong supporter of Youth and Children’s Ministries.
Services will be held at Oakwood United Methodist Church, 400 NE 56th St, Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 9. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.
Charley is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Christine (Craig) Wood, Kathleen (Clint) Hiatt, Ricky (Dawn) Dunagan, Shonna Dunagan; brothers, Dick (Wilma) Dyer, Ralph (Bertha) Dyer, Ted (Joann) Dyer; sister-in-law, Janet Dyer; grandchildren, John (Heather) Veach, Timmy (Tara) Veach, Raian (Kyle) Hanson, Trisha (Brad) Vande Lune, Christopher (Stacy) Wood, Jessy (Jamie) Wood, Tasha Hiatt, Jessica Bowlin, Tyler Bowlin, Madison (McKennon) Difalco and Abigail Dunagan; great-grandchildren, Evan Wood, Lauryn Hanson, Collin Vande Lune, Ellie Wood, Alivia Vande Lune, JayLynn Wood, Hailey Hanson, Michael Quinn, Camrin Wood, Zoe Veach and Archer Wood; and many extended family and friends.
