Maxine Reed

Maxine Reed, 84, of Jefferson died Monday, March 18, 2008 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Maxine was born January 22, 1924 in Des Moines. She graduated from North High School. Maxine married Gerald Reed in January 1943. They resided on the Eastside of Des Moines and were blessed with two sons. Maxine worked at Cascade Laundry for many years and retired with Gerald in the mid 70’s. They moved to Kimberling City, MO and enjoyed many years at their home on Tablerock Lake. Maxine was a member of Indian Hills Baptist Church. She always enjoyed volunteering and working in the daycare. She loved to take care of other people. Everyone who knew Maxine will miss her jokes and little love pats. Maxine enjoyed crafts, playing cards, and had a true love for children.
Maxine is survived by her sons Jerry and Steve Reed of Des Moines; her brother, Jim VanDyke of Des Moines; her sister Ruth Grebiner of Chicago, and her sister Mary of Florida; 8 grandchildren, Shawn Hager, Mechele Stroud, Meloney Reed, Traci Stumbo, Chris Spicer, Amy Reed, Mike Reed and Stephen Reed; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie VanDyke; husband, Gerald; her brothers, Elmer, Robert and Larry; and her sisters, Jean and Betty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in loving memory of Maxine.

My deepest sympathy to the Reed Family. Maxine was a very special person, a devoted wife, loving mother and a kind, caring, fun loving wonderful person to everyone. I will miss Aunt Maxine very much, but she is now where she belongs.
