Jerry Mapes

Jerry Mapes, 61, was born August 12, 1946 in Des Moines to Lester and Irene Mapes, and passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 18, 2008. The family will greet friends from 9-10am Monday, March 24, 2008 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life will follow from 10am-12pm. Burial will take place at 2pm Monday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton.
Jerry grew up in Afton, Iowa and was active in Boy Scouts. He graduated from East Union High School in Afton in 1964 and attended Southwest Community College in Creston, obtaining a Masters Transmission degree. He married the love of his life, Arlis (Carpenter) Mapes in 1979 and lived in Des Moines for about 10 years before moving to Swan.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Arlis Mapes; daughter, Kristina Mapes; sons, Bill and Colt Mapes; grandson, Harley Mapes; sisters, Violet (Don) Westfall and Carol Lyons, and twin-sister Terry (Leroy) Franke; 28 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
