Betty A. Jerome, age 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 26, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Earlham Cemetery in Earlham, Iowa.
Betty was born February 4, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Gerry and Helen (Stanley) Hougham. She was employed for many years as the Deputy Auditor for the Dallas County Courthouse in Adel, Iowa. Betty was a 50 year member of Eastern Star. Family was her main focus and she will be forever remembered for her cooking and recipes. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing at her cabin in Hackensack, MN.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Jane Kelly; grandsons, Michael (Shawn) Kelly of Maquoketa, IA and Jason (Jennifer Ritter) Kelly of Inver Grove Heights, MN; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, all of Maquoketa; sister-in-law, Lillian Hougham of De Soto, KS; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; sister, Martha Evans; brother, Howard Hougham; and son in infancy, Jerry.

Jane and family,
Even though I worked with Betty for many years, it was the times outside the office I remember. Whether it was decorating Christmas cookies, taking cake decorating classes, or meeting at her cabin at the lake, she was a great friend to me. She and Irene were quite the pair. She will be so fondly remembered. God's peace to you.
