Marjorie Payne

Marjorie “Marie” Payne, 83 went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 17 at her home following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral services will be held 10am Thursday, March 20th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Marie’s family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, March 19th at the funeral home.
Marie was born in Des Moines on July 1, 1924 the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Sylvester. She married Harry J. Payne and enjoyed a long marriage until his death in 1994. Marie worked for Look Magazine and for the Des Moines School district for 10 years in the lunch program. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed doing for others and participating in church activities.
She is survived by her son Ronald, his wife Arliss and her grandchildren Matthew and Erin all of Bellevue, Nebraska. She is also survived by her loving daughter Cindy and her husband Grant Stephen. Cindy and Grant were her caregivers for the past 5 years. She was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Juanita Kuhnhofer.
