October 23, 2017
Lydia Rose Bailey, 81, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW with burial to follow at Mitchellville Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
Lydia was born on June 17, 1936, in Minot, North Dakota. She married Robert Bailey on October 5, 1957. She was a homemaker for many years before becoming a medical records file clerk at Methodist Hospital.
Lydia enjoyed spending time with her family, making puzzles, and competing with her bean bag team at Prairie Vista Village. She was always ready for an adventure and encouraged others to join her on bus rides to events around Altoona and Des Moines. She courageously survived six different cancer battles before quietly passing away in her sleep.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, Robert; sons, Michael and Alan; and daughter, Jo. She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Daniel) Dales of Altoona; two grandsons, Joshua (Melissa) Shaver and Christopher Ryan (Jessica) Shaver, and three wonderful great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

So sorry to hear about Lydia's passing. In the mid-50's we worked together at the E 30th St restaurant. I also stood-up with her at their wedding.
With sympathy to the family.
